Pornhub joining July 12 protest to fight for net neutrality

Pornhub is one of the top 20 most visited websites on the Internet, according to Alexa. Which is why the adult video streaming site is doing its part to preserve net neutrality by joining a July 12 protest against a threat to a free and open internet.

Motherboard reports that Pornhub and 60 other companies including Amazon, Github, Imgur, Kickstarter and Reddit will be participating in a protest organized by Fight for the Future, freepress, as well as Demand Progress.

As stated in the Battleforthenet.com platform, other entities joining the July 12 protest include Netflix, Vimeo, OK Cupid, Mozilla, Creative Commons, Greenpeace, Etsy and Bit Torrent.

The movement is to counteract a proposal made by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which is targeting a rollback on net neutrality protections. The proposal was made by FCC chief and former Verizon executive Ajit Pai.

Lifting these protections would effectively allow internet service providers to choose which sites would load faster while the rest get less bandwidth. Companies can then charge subscribers with extra payments to have a particular site receive greater priority.
