Deniece's camp to exhaust all legal remedies

The camp of model Deniece Cornejo refused to comment on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) decision to junk the rape complaint which she has filed against host-actor Vhong Navarro.

Cornejo’s lawyer, Atty. Howard Calleja, said they have yet to receive a copy of the DOJ resolution.

“We reserve our right to comment at this point in time because we have not received the copy of the resolution, and we also reserve our right to proceed with the legal remedies available for our client,” he said.

The DOJ, in a 42-page resolution dated April 4, 2014, said it was very difficult to comprehend how Navarro could have raped Cornejo, noting that there was not even a single scratch on the model.

The panel noted that Cornejo’s claim that she was pinned down on the bed by the “It’s Showtime” host, who then removed his shorts, demonstrates physical improbability.

“It is extremely difficult to comprehend how such scenario of shouting, struggling and running to the lobby of the Forbeswood Heights condominium could have escaped the ears of the people in the neighboring units or in the halls of the condominium,” it said.

The DOJ said Cornejo was unable to provide a logical story and therefore the panel found no probable cause to indict Navarro for the crime of rape.

Aside from the dismissal of the rape complaint, the DOJ has also found probable cause to charge Cornejo, Cedric Lee, Bernice Lee, Simeon Raz, Fedinand Guerrero, Jose Paolo Calma and Jeff Fernandez for the crimes of serious illegal detention and grave coercion.

The case is now filed before the Taguig Regional Trial Court.
