Transgender Woman Banned from Ladies’ Room Files Discrimination Charges

A transgender woman filed charges of discrimination at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, as two security guards barred her from entering the women’s bathroom at her workplace.

According to La Torre, the incident which happened on Feb. 20 is a violation of Quezon City Ordinance No. SP-1309 S-2003. The said ordinance prohibits “all discriminatory acts against homosexuals in the workplace, whether in hiring, treatment, promotion or dismissal, in both the government and private sector.”
The ordinance assured to penalize discrimination against homosexuals with a fine of up to P5,000 and up to six months in prison.
