Mayor sued for using public funds to buy tires

Lawaan, Eastern Samar Mayor Candida Gabornes and two other officials were slapped with criminal and administrative charges over the purchase of spare parts and tires for a privately owned car, the Office of the Ombudsman said.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ordered the filing of two counts of malversation through falsification of public documents and two counts of violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (Republic Act No. 3019) against Municipal Mayor Candida Gabornes, Municipal Accountant Pedro Gabornes and Municipal Treasurer Ruben Baet.

The case stemmed from the alleged purchase using public funds of spare parts and tires worth P41,801.14 for the mayor's Mitsubishi Montero in 2012.

Trusting our leaders is a very big risk that we should take and what we can only do is hold that trust that they will take care of us and our country. But some cannot be trusted especially the funds. Leaders, remember your oath!
