Vhong Navarro Faces New Rape Charges

The rape case filed by Deniece Cornejo against Vhong Navarro has yet to be resolved, but the comedian-television host has to face another filed by a woman against him on Wednesday at the Pasig City Prosecutor Office.
Lawyer Virgilio Batalla confirmed this via a phone interview with ABS-CBN’s evening talk show “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” on Feb. 19, 2014 episode.
Batalla acknowledged the filing of the complaint at the prosecutor’s office in Pasig City and disclosed that the alleged rape happened in 2010.
However, he refused to name his client as yet.  He said the woman walked in to the foundation that provides free legal service to people in need, where he serves as chairperson, to ask for help.
“Lumapit po sa akin ang biktimang ito dahil siya ay nagkaroon ng lakas ng loob sa mga pangyayaring alam n’yo naman po yun… ‘yun pong pangyayaring may nagsampa ng kaso kay Vhong Navarro ng rape, dahil sa nakita niya na puwede palang mangyari ito nang paulit-ulit sa ibang bababe tulad niya,” Batalla said.
(The victim approached me after she gathered enough strength from what happened… pertaining to rape charges filed against Navarro; because she  realized that the same crime can happen over and over again with other women.)

The latest complainant was allegedly referring to Deniece Cornejo who filed a rape charge against Navarro after the mauling incident on Navarro by Lee and companions on January 22 at the Forbeswood Heights Tower at the Bonifacio Global City.
When questioned by Abunda why the complainant brought up her case only after four years, Batalla went on to say that  a rape victim has 20 years to file a rape case, and it has been only four years since the alleged incident happened.
In addition, the lawyer also  stated that  he cannot answer for his client as to the reasons for her long silence.
With regards to Cedric Lee, Batalla was asked whether his client has any connection with the businessman, and he said he doesn’t know of any.
Despite Batalla’s refusal to disclose his client’s name, there were speculations on the social media that the new complainant goes by the name “Roxanne.”
According to some netizens, Roxanne Cabanero, a former Bb. Pilipinas 2011 candidate, may be the woman Batalla was referring to as the new complainant.
In the meantime,  the second hearing of the Navarro-Cornejo case is set on February 21.
