Forensic science is the scientific method of gathering and examining information about the past. This is especially important in law enforcement where forensics is done in relation to criminal or civil law.
Forensic science has shaped the world of justice, fueling crime investigations and signifying the progress of modern technology. Forensic science of today covers:
- Modern computer/clay facial reconstruction;
- DNA fingerprinting;
- Autopsy techniques;
- Forensic anthropology;
- Toxicology and much more.
There is a part of me wanting to have a career in forensic science. I was inspired because of the crime TV series I watched everyday like Bones and CSI. When I watched my first crime-investigation-series, I was amazed how they did it, how they prove the innocence or one man's guilt. Every little detail is important.
I wonder how SOCO (in Philippines) handle the crime investigations because the tools to discover the truth is quite expensive and not all can afford by the nation. Do SOCO have those tools? Is there any recording when one person calls the other? How did they trace the evidence if they don't have enough tools to do it?
Like Vhong Navarro's case, I know CCTV is not enough, it may be tampered by someone before the NBI got a copy. Can they determine whose fist punched Vhong? Can they determine the epithelial cells transferred to Vhong?
Many questions to be answered and it is amazing how the forensic scientists reveals the truth. I hope SOCO have those tools like in the series I watched, it will make there job easier.
